The Garner PD-5-e Destroyer is an automatic "crusher" specially developed for physically destroying hard disk drives and SSD's. With the Garner PD-5-e, two standard 3.5" hard disks can be destroyed simultaneously in 18 seconds. The hard disks are cracked using a metal wedge, whereby both the data platters, the housing, the heads and electronics are being bent and broken. The physical destruction of hard disks provides certainty that they can no longer be accessed.

Prior to physical destruction, hard drives are usually erased with a hard drive degausser. The magnetic information on the hard disk platters is completely removed with a strong electromagnetic pulse. Combined with the physical destruction, this ensures complete security in the field of data destruction.

Optionally, the SCAN-1Xe Media Destruction Report Generator is available for the Garner PD-5-e Destroyer. This kit consists of software and a barcode scanner. The Garner PD-5-e can be connected to a PC via a USB cable. Through the Media Destruction Report software extensive information about each crush cycle can be stored for auditing or reporting purposes.

In addition to destroying hard disk drives (including IDE and SCSI disks up to 1.66" high), the Garner PD-5-e can also be used for destroying Solid State Disks, Flash Memory and USB sticks, for which the optional SSD-1e module is available. The SSD-1e module perforates the media with 90 pins, which destroys all internal memory chips.

The Garner PD-5-e destroyer is "NSA Evaluated" and is listed on the NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List for hard drive Destroyers. Due to the compact dimensions of the PD-5-e and the optional transport case, hard disks can be physically destroyed at any desired location.
