The HD-3XTLe automatic degausser from Garner Products is designed to quickly and effectively erase large numbers of hard disk drives. The degausser operation is simple; a hard disk is placed into the media slot at the side. This automatically initiates the degauss cyle. After only 3 seconds the media is degaussed and ejected at the right side of the unit. The HD-3XTLe uses a "capacitive discharge". A short, powerful electromagnetic pulse (up to 10,000 Gauss) is sent through the hard drive. This discharge is powerful enough to erase hard disk drives of 2 TB and larger.

The SCAN-1Xe Media Destruction Report Generator comes standard with the Garner HD-3XTLe. This kit consists of log software and a barcode scanner. With the log software extensive information about each degauss cycle (user, date/time, serial number, degauss result) can be stored for auditing or reporting purposes. The Garner HD-3XTLe must be connected to a PC via a USB cable.

In addition to erasing hard drives, the Garner HD-3XTLe degausser can also be used for erasing various magnetic tapes such as DLT, LTO, 9940, 3590, AIT, 8mm and more. The degausser does not need to be cooled and can be used continuously. The system can erase a hard disk or tape in 3 seconds. To save time, pre-charging is started immediately once the degaussed media is ejected.

To ensure that information on hard drives and tapes is effectively removed the HD-3XTLe has a number of built-in security measures; the degausser checks the stored power for each cycle. A built-in sensor also measures the magnetic field with each discharge. Any faults are shown via the LCD display. This ensures correct operation of the degausser.
