One of the biggest dilemmas in destroying information on data carriers such as hard disk drives and SSD's is releasing the data carriers outside the organization. To avoid the risk of a data breach or loss of information, many organizations do not allow data carriers to leave the business location without being 100% securely erased.

The Garner ICC-1XT5SSD-e Mobile Destruction Unit is a mobile data destruction solution for hard disks, tapes and SSD's. The system consists of the NSA Approved TS-1XTe degausser, the NSA Approved PD-5e crusher, the SSD-1e SSD module and the Garner IRONCLAD verification system. All this integrated in a compact movable housing for use on location. As soon as the Mobile Destruction Unit is connected to a standard power connection, the system is ready for use.

The Garner TS-1XTe is a NSA tested degausser for hard drives and tapes. This degausser is listed on the NSA Evaluated Products List. Media is loaded into the Garner TS-1XTe front drawer. With the press of a button the degauss cycle of 15 seconds is started; the degausser charges, after which a very strong electromagnetic pulse of 20,000 gauss is sent through the data carrier. With this, hard drives from 3TB+ can be deleted quickly and effectively.

The Garner PD-5e is a mechanical crusher for physically destroying hard drives and SSD's. This crusher is listed on the NSA Evaluated Products List for physically destroying hard drives. A hard disk is cracked lengthwise using of a metal wedge, whereby both the data platters, the housing, the heads and electronics are bent and broken. The physical destruction of hard disks gives the certainty that they can no longer be accessed. For the physical destruction of SSD's, the PD-5e crusher can be combined with the Garner SSD-1e SSD module. This module perforates an SSD at 90 locations to damage all internal memory chips and render the SSD unusable.

The Garner IRONCLAD verification system keeps a log of every data carrier destroyed with the TS-1XTe and/or PD-5e. The unique Garner IRONCLAD system consists of an automatic camera module, a touchscreen control panel, a barcode scanner and the Garner Erasure Report software. Information from each hard disk such as serial number, date/time and user ID is recorded via the software and barcode scanner before erasure and/or crushing. After degaussing, the external camera module takes a picture of the top of the ejected hard disk. The photo of each degauss cycle is recorded together with the degauss result and the other information entered in the IRONCLAD log for auditing or reporting purposes.
