The Crunch 250 Destroyer from VS Security Products is an automatic "crusher" for physically destroying hard disk drives and SSD's. The Crunch 250 can destroy a hard drive in nine seconds. A metal wedge presses down on the hard drive which bends and breaks the drive in a 90 degree angle. This damages both the data platters, the housing, the heads and electronics. The physical destruction of hard disks provides certainty that they can no longer be accessed.
Prior to physical destruction, hard drives are usually erased using a hard disk degausser. A degausser completely removes information on the HDD platters using a strong electromagnetic pulse. Combined with the physical destruction, this gives complete security in the field of data security.
The Crunch 250 is equipped with a special log function as standard. With the included Data Destruction Auditor software, comprehensive log information about each crush cycle can be stored for auditing or reporting purposes. For this the Crunch 250 must be connected to a PC via a USB cable.
In addition to destroying hard drives, the VSSP Crunch 250 can also be used to destroy Solid State Disks. An optional SSD adapter is available. The SSD adapter breaks the disks into a "wafer" form in which all individual memory chips are damaged.
